The following recipe was transcribed ver batim from Peterson's Magazine Philadelphia, Pennsylvania February, 1859
Ingredients:
ormskirk gingerbread
two pounds flour
one pound butter
one-half pound sifted oatmeal
three-quarters of a pound of moist sugar, one ounce ginger
the same of citrus and candied orange peel
all mixed together; then add one pound of treacle*.
Directions:
1. The whole should be mixed the day before it is intended to be baked.

3. In a regular gingerbread pan floured and larded this took 35 minutes in a 350 degree oven. It made 2 pans.
