I made up this recipe after a coworker signed me up for a chili cook off. This concoction took home most original & best in show , so I guess I owe her one! It is slightly spicy with a sweet hint to it...
Ingredients:
1 onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 lb beef
1 lb hot pork sausage
1 can (14 oz) kidney beans
1 can tomato paste
1 can diced tomatoes
2 cans tomatoe sauce
3 tbs molasses
1 tbs cinnamon
2 cans beef broth
1/3 cup chili powder
2 tbs cumin
1 tbs cayenne
2 bay leaves
2 tbs oregano
2 tbs red wine vinegar
1 can diced chiles
1 tbs nutmeg
3 tbs crushed red peppers
2 tbs butter
Directions:
1. Add butter, garlic & onions in a large pot & cook until onions are opaque.
2. Add beef & sausage until cooked thoroughly & stir in tomato paste.
3. Mix in all spices & diced chile peppers, molasses, bay leaves & vinegar.
4. Add in tomato sauce & beef broth.
5. Let cook - stirring occassionally. The longer it simmers the better the flavor.
