This makes soft, pillowy white bread. This bread is best eaten warm. The house smells heavenly while this bakes. Take care to not let the dough fall after the second rising session. Get it straight in an oven. Read more . Keep the oven CLOSED during the baking process or the loaves will fall!
Ingredients:
2 cups warm water
2/3 cup white sugar
1.5 tablespoon active dry yeast
1.5 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup vegetable oil
6 cups bread flour
Directions:
1. In large bowl, dissolve sugar in warm water, and then stir in the yeast. Proof until a creamy foam has formed. Mix the salt and oil into the yeast mixture.
2. Mix in the flour 1 cup at a time (keep count!). Knead dough on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Place in an oiled bowl and turn to cover. Cover with damp cloth. Allow to rise until doubled (1 hour).
3. Punch the risen dough down (what fun!). Knead for a few minutes. Divide the dough in half. Shape into loaves and place in 9x5 loaf pans. Allow to rise for 30 minutes more.
4. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.
